Interior Painting FAQ
Common questions about interior painting from homeowners in Washington State. Don’t see your question? Contact us! we’re happy to help.
How long does interior painting take?
A single room typically takes one day. A full home interior usually runs 3–7 days depending on the number of rooms, ceiling height, amount of trim, and the condition of the existing surfaces. We give you a clear timeline in your estimate.
Do I need to move my furniture?
We ask that you remove small items, valuables, and breakables. We cover everything with drop cloths and use painter’s plastic sheeting on items that can’t be moved.
How many coats of paint do you apply?
Typically two finish coats over primer where needed. If you’re making a dramatic color change (like dark walls to white, or vice versa), an additional coat may be required. We’ll tell you upfront if that’s the case.
What paint sheen should I use in each room?
Here’s our general guide for Washington homes:
- Ceilings: Flat – hides imperfections, non-reflective
- Living rooms & bedrooms: Eggshell or matte – easy to clean, minimal sheen
- Kitchens & bathrooms: Satin or semi-gloss – moisture resistant, easy to wipe down
- Trim, doors & cabinets: Semi-gloss or gloss – durable, crisp finish
Do you do color consultation?
Yes. We can help you narrow down colors based on your lighting, flooring, and furnishings. We can also bring paint samples to your home so you can see them in your actual light before committing.
Is the paint smell going to be a problem?
Modern interior paints are water-based latex and have come a long way — odor is minimal. We also offer low-VOC and zero-VOC options for clients with allergies, asthma, young children, or pets. Proper ventilation during and after painting speeds drying and clears any residual smell quickly.
Do you patch holes and cracks before painting?
Yes! Minor patching (nail holes, small dings, hairline cracks) is included in our prep work. For significant drywall damage, we’ll quote that separately or refer you to a drywall specialist if it’s beyond the scope of a paint job. We always prep surfaces properly, painting over damage just makes the damage more visible.
Can you paint my kitchen cabinets?
Yes. Cabinet painting is one of the most cost-effective ways to update a kitchen without a full remodel. We remove the doors, paint all components properly with a brush and roller or spray equipment, and rehang when cured. The result is a factory-smooth finish that holds up to daily use.
How soon can I use the room after painting?
Most latex paints are dry to the touch within 1–2 hours and ready for light use after 4 hours. We recommend waiting 24 hours before moving furniture back against walls, and 2–4 weeks before washing painted surfaces to allow full cure.
